La Mesa, CA lies approximately 12 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and is one of the most popular inland communities in San Diego County.  It was founded in 1869 and has been officially incorporated as a city since February 16, 1912.  This city sits on the edge of East County with El Cajon to the East, San Carlos to the North and Lemon Grove to the South.  La Mesa has easy access to Downtown San Diego, Balboa Park, the World-Famous San Diego Zoo, Seaport Village, Mission Valley, SeaWorld and the San Diego International Airport (also known as "Lindberg Field").

Lake Murray Reservoir (simply known as "Lake Murray") is located at 5540 Kiowa Drive in La Mesa and lies within the boundaries of Mission Trails Regional Park, San Carlos and Santee.  This attraction is definitely for the outdoor person and sports enthusiast.  The lake itself is extremely popular for fishing and boating and the 3.2 mile shoreline's paved path is great for walking, biking, running and rollerblading.  Lake Murray's hours remain the same every day: open from sunrise to sunset, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's when the lake is closed.
Grossmont Center Shopping Mall is situated in La Mesa on Fletcher Parkway just off the Interstate 8 Freeway; this well-trafficked outdoor mall provides residents and visitors alike with many restaurant choices such as Claim Jumper, the ever-popular Casa de Pico Mexican Restaurant and B.J's Restaurant and Brewhouse.  Along with Macy's Department Store, there are many specialty shops.  Anchoring both ends of this center are Wal-Mart and Target.  There is even a Reading Multi-Cinema Movie Theatre which shows all the latest movie releases in their stadium seat auditoriums.
